Our team completed the installation of new Grid Tie Protection and Control relays at 2 separate Hydro Generating Facilities. The new relay will detect unintentional islanding conditions when the transmission line inadvertently disconnects the station from the grid. The breaker then disconnects the severed line to minimize hazards. The new controls are capable of black start or #microgrid operation and synchronizing multiple generators and the station bus to the utility grid when power is restored.
